Megan Anderson is set to take on reigning Featherweight champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 256 in December. Anderson will have her work cut out for her as her opponent Nunes is the top-ranked UFC Women’s Pound-For-Pound athlete. Nunes is also essentially the sole competitor in the Women’s 145-pound division.
Nunes has become arguably the best women’s MMA fighter in UFC history after soundly defeating Ronda Rousey and Cris Cyborg in under a minute each. In the latter match, she managed to overwhelm Cyborg with a blend of speed and power that has become her signature.
If a fighter wants to have any chance against Nunes, they will have to avoid her powerful strikes as she has a finishing rate of over 70%, almost double the average. They will also have to be wary of her range and ability to keep opponents at a distance.
Anderson could have a chance to get the upset. She has three inches on Nunes’ reach and is a powerful fighter in her own right. However, she faces a steep uphill battle when it comes to the current dual-champion.
Can Anderson overcome the odds and become the new Featherweight champion or will Amanda Nunes continue her Women’s MMA dominance? Let us know in the comments!
