At UFC 251 Amanda Ribas forced Paige VanZant to submit in what might have been VanZant’s last fight with the UFC brand.
While the bout looked as though it was going to be a competitive one, it was anything but that after Ribas locked a vicious armbar submission on the 26-year-old VanZant, who would succumb to the move just minutes into her first bout in over a year.
The victory brought Ribas professional mark to 10-1 while it brought VanZant’s record to a middling 8-5 (and only 5-4 during her time in the UFC).
It appears that this fight could’ve been VanZant’s last in the company, and that fact is reinforced by the seemingly growing feud between herself and UFC president Dana White. VanZant took exception to White’s comment that she got “smoked” by Ribas during the Fight Island event.
“Honestly, I didn’t actually see specifically the quote or what he said,” VanZant said in an interview with MMAFighting.com. “I try not to pay attention too much. It’s unfortunate because I feel like I have a really good relationship with Dana.”
While she may seem checked out of the fighting game at the moment, the question that has yet to be answered is whether this be the last that the company has seen of the former media darling VanZant, as she has hinted?
