IBF Champion Teofimo Lopez may not be the biggest boxer or possess the most powerful knockout punch, but he is certainly one of savviest in the boxing industry. He tends to play mind games with his opponents, and this time it seems as though he has his sights set on WBO and WBA Champion Vasyl Lomachenko.
When asked about Lomachenko in an interview with ESPN in 2019, Lopez did not spare feelings.
“Lomo is on his way out,” said the 23-year-old Lopez. “I’m on my way in. I’m going to finish it [his rivalry with Lomachenko] in the right way, finish it with a bang.”
Lomachenko recently responded to the brash fighter’s insults, and he had an interesting take on the subject. He said Lopez’s comments did all of the promotional work for the upcoming bout, and he thanked him for doing so.
Both fighters' responses towards one another show their age and experience. Lopez is an up and coming fighter who is hungry for success, and he feels that he will step on whomever he has to on his way to the top. Lomachenko, on the other hand, would rather let his in-ring performance speak for itself.
The two titans are scheduled to go head to head on October 17, 2020, and the bout will air on ESPN Plus pay-per-view. The fight will be 12 rounds if each fighter can go the distance, and it would be wise to not bet against them considering the disdain these two have for one another.
