In an interview with Barstool Sports’ Robbie Fox, UFC President Dana White said that Conor McGregor will not fight again in 2020.
In January, McGregor finished UFC legend Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds which tipped off fans that a major comeback was in the works. Even the former double-champ himself said that 2020 was going to be a very active year for him.
McGregor controversially retired via Twitter earlier this summer, though critics and fans alike debate the validity of his claim due to similar past claims. Even White said that McGregor is “retired” because he is waiting for something to open up for him.
Retirement aside, the question about who McGregor will take on next is at the forefront of fans’ minds. In an interview on the “My Mom’s Basement” podcast, White said that “The Notorious” will not see the Octagon in 2020.
“This year, he is retired,” White told Fox. “He doesn’t have a fight this year, and he won’t have a fight this year. I guarantee he will not fight in 2020.”
Who do you think McGregor will fight next? Will he ever fight in the Octagon again, or will other potential pursuits prove to be too much of a distraction? Let us know in the comments!
