Holm vs Aldana Headlines Fight Night

Holly Holm and Irene Aldana will finally go head to head in the headliner face off of the UFC Fight Night on ESPN on October 4, 2020.

The fight was originally scheduled to headline the UFC Fight Night on August 1, 2020 before Aldana was forced to pull out of the bout last-minute due to testing positive for Covid-19.

The matchup is sure to be the most exciting one of an otherwise uninspiring card, as it features two fighters near the top of the women’s bantamweight division.

Holm is currently seen as the number one contender for the Women’s Bantamweight Championship, and is ranked second in the class. Aldana is not far behind her in the sixth spot, and has the perfect opportunity to climb in the ranks with a victory against the veteran on Saturday night.

Many believe that Aldana, who is also the first Mexican-born woman to headline a UFC event, will instantly become the number one contender if she is able to outlast Holm in the main event.

The 32-year-old is among the best in the company right now. She has won five out of her last six bouts dating back to 2018 and is coming off an extremely impressive victory at UFC 245 in December. She was even awarded the Performance of the Night for her efforts.

Holm is looking to keep her momentum from her last fight, which saw her beat Raquel Pennington by unanimous decision at UFC 246 in January. Holm will have to pull off a victory against the red-hot Aldana if she wants to be remembered for more than her title fight victory against Ronda Rousey in 2015, which many consider to be one of the greatest upsets in UFC history.

The 38-year-old is certainly eager to face Nunez again, as her last attempt to dethrone the champ was not a successful one. She lost to Nunes just four minutes into the first round of their bout at UFC 239 and looked completely in over her head in the big spot.

Nevertheless, she has still shown to be more than a worthy competitor and, as we have seen before, it would never be wise to count her out as she tends to thrive when branded as an underdog.

The fight will air on ESPN and ESPN Plus and the main card will begin at approximately 9:30 PM CT..
