Lightweight UFC fighters Clay Guida (35-17-0) and Michael Johnson (19-16-0) are set to face off against each other Super Bowl weekend in a lightweight bout. The match is expected to take place Saturday, Feb. 6 on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

Guida and Johnson are seasoned vets, bringing decades of combined experience with them into the octagon. While both fighters have plenty of past success, wins have been hard to come by as of late.

Guida, an Illinois native, has lost three out of his last four fights and has been trying to reach the heights of his earlier accomplishments. Guida is most famous for his epic three round match against Diego Sanchez back in 2009. While Guida lost by split-decision, he put up an extraordinary effort that earned him match Hall of Fame honors. Since then, he’s earned numerous Fight and Submission of the Night honors but has never been able to win consistently enough to compete for a title.

Wins have also eluded Johnson lately as he has had to drop his last three fights. Johnson is most widely known for being a finalist on Ultimate FIghter Season 12. In his last match, he lost by submission in the second round to Thiago Moses (14-4-0). Johnson flashed his talent in the first round, managing to dominate Moses before getting caught on the ground.

Both fighters will have an opportunity to get back on track with a win, while the loser will continue their downward spiral. With rumors that UFC President Dana White is looking to cut as many as 60 fighters off the roster, it might be more important than ever to earn a win.
