On May 16 almost a year ago, “50K” Dan Ige (15-3-0) publicly stated that he wanted to fight “Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung (16-6-0) after he beat Edson Barboza (21-9-0) in a split decision at UFC Fight Night Jacksonville in 2020.
Ige told the press he “asked for the Zombie in my last fight.” Ige also spoke about why he wanted the fight, stating “that guy’s a banger, he’s a zombie, he has no soul. He comes out, he goes for the kill, and that’s what I do.”
Ige again called for the matchup against Jung after winning his recent fight against Gavin Tucker (13-2-0), who he knocked out just 22 seconds into the first round.
Now, it finally seems that Ige will get his wish.
Jung is set to fight Ige on June 19. Jung vs Ige is currently the only fight on the card, with the main card event set to start at 5 PM CDT on ESPN +.
Jung’s last fight back in October of last year resulted in a tough unanimous decision loss to Brian Ortega (15-1-0).
Despite his recent loss, Jung is ranked number 4 in the Featherweight division, while Ige is ranked number 8. Ige has made it clear he is gunning for the title this year, and beating Jung could put him a step closer.
A win against Jung won’t be easy though, especially since Jung has a 72-inch reach, a full inch longer than Ige's. Jung also has a half in longer leg reach than Ige, with 38.5 inches. Ige does have a slightly higher striking accuracy, with 47 percent to Jung’s 40 percent. However, Jung does have higher grappling accuracy, with 42 percent to Ige’s 28 percent.
Ige is going to have to bring his ‘A-game’ to take down the “Korean Zombie” in the fight he’s been itching for since last year.
