UFC middleweights Derek Brunson (21-7-0) and Kevin Holland (21-5-0) will fight in the main card of UFC Fight Night 188 in Las Vegas on Saturday, March 20. It will be available to watch on ESPN and ESPN+.
Brunson is currently the #7 ranked middleweight while Holland is ranked #10. The winner of this match will put themselves one step further to being in consideration for a title fight. The current middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya (20-0-0), is expected to make a permanent move to light heavyweight as his next match will be for the Light heavyweight division title, leaving the future of the middleweight belt up in the air.
Brunson, who has had an up and down career as a middleweight, is coming off a three-win streak since his last loss which was against current champion Adesanya.
On the other side of the ring, Holland has won a record tying five consecutive matches in one calendar year during 2020. Holland’s most recent fight was an electrifying win over former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Jacare Souza (26-9-0), after driving him to the ground and putting him to sleep early in the first round.
Holland is considered the favorite according to Vegas odds and is hovering around -170 across different betting sites ,while Brunson is averaging around +140. This reflects where each is at at this point of their careers.
Holland is a hotshot coming off one of the most historical UFC years ever and will look to utilize his superior height and range to overwhelm Brunson. Brunson has been around almost a decade longer than Holland and will hope to utilize that experience to stay in the fight and look for an opportunity to get some decisive shots in.
