Undefeated rising star Chris Colbert (15-0, 6KOs) will defend his WBA interim super featherweight title Saturday, July 3rd, against former Olympian Tugstsogt Nyambayar (12-1, 9KOs).

The event takes place at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California and will be broadcast live on Showtime under the Premier Boxing Champions banner. This will be a 12-round bout in the super featherweight division at the weight limit of 130 pounds.

Both boxers are ranked in the top 10 of the Ring Magazine in their respective divisions, with Colbert at number nine at junior lightweight and Nyambayar at number eight at featherweight.

Nyambayar is taking this fight on short notice and will be moving up in weight. He will be replacing Yuriorkis Gamboa after the boxer had to pull out with a rib injury.

For Colbert, this will be his 2nd defense of his WBA title and will be his first fight since Dec. 2020. In his last fight, he defeated Jaime Arboleda by technical knockout in the 11th round.

Colbert has a five-inch reach advantage over Nyambayar and is coming in as the faster boxer. He also has very strong defense and footwork along with super quick hands.

Colbert is also a switch hitter, which means that he is able to fight orthodox and southpaw at a high level.

Nyambayar, meanwhile, is coming off a split decision victory over Cobia Breedy back in Sept. 2020. The Olympic silver medalist also had an impressive showing in his only defeat against WBC champion Gary Russell Jr.

Nyambayar has a textbook style with excellent fundamentals. His head movement is solid and he has a lethal lead hook.

He has some real power with a 75% finishing rate in his 12 victories, seven of his fights ending before the 5th round. But will his power stay with him as he moves up to super featherweight?

For Colbert, this fight is an opportunity to raise up his stock and put him in line to face WBA (regular) champion Roger Gutiérrez or WBA (super) champion Gervonta Davis. For Nyambayar, this is an opportunity to jump into the top 10 of the super featherweight division.

To watch Colbert vs. Nyambayar, tune in Saturday, July 3rd on Showtime at 9pm EST.
