Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones fight moved to November 28th

The upcoming bout between the Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones, which was originally scheduled to take place on September 12, 2020, was rescheduled to November 28, 2020. The two legends will face off in an eight-round exhibition match at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

The bout was originally viewed as somewhat of a publicity stunt by promoters, as it was contrived as a much-needed source of entertainment when the Covid-19 pandemic began. Nevertheless, the amount of publicity that the fight gained was much more than previously expected. As such, promoters decided to postpone the bout to maximize its exposure leading up to the contest.

The postponement will also give each man more time to get their body in shape, as they are both making returns after years away from the sport. Nevertheless, 51-year-old Jones thinks he has a clear advantage against Tyson, who is three years older than him at 54-years-old and has not fought in over a decade.

“It isn’t like I’m scared of Mike Tyson,” Jones said. “It’s just that I know that in six weeks he had no chance to deal with me. In 12 weeks he’ll have a better chance to deal with me, but his chance is still gonna be rough, but it’s gonna be better than it would’ve been.”

Most other exhibition fights in boxing history may not have reached the popularity of this one, and that is because of the massive amount of pride each boxer has on the line. The two legends are dedicated to their craft, and they both are looking to prove that they still have what it takes to find success in the ring.

While he may believe he has the advantage on Tyson in terms of preparation, it is clear that he still has massive respect for his opponent. In a recent interview, he said, “The longer you keep Mike fresh, the more dangerous that is for me” when asked about the fight being rescheduled to a later date.

While the upcoming bout is Tyson’s first since 2005, his ferociousness is still evident when watching him train for his fight with Jones. While he may not have seen in-ring action in over a decade, he would still be one of the last people that one would want to count out.
