Before the controversial finish to Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling at UFC 259, Dana White made the statement that he has something in the works for TJ Dillashaw’s return after his drug test suspension. Many believe his return fight is going to be against Cory “the Sandman” Sandhagen. After UFC 259’s bantamweight contest, it’s almost certain Dillashaw will battle Sandhagen especially after the latter let sources know he’s been presented with the fight by the UFC.
For Dillashaw, this is a bout that will prove how much he has left in the tank considering he is making his return at 35 years of age. Dillashaw has been preaching his desire to be champion again for a third time in his career but he’ll have to wait for Sterling and Yan to play out. Fortunately for Dillashaw, he has no shortage of potential opponents as he’s been called out by a long list of top bantamweights such as Sandhagen, Pedro Munhoz, Rob Font, and former featherweight champion Jose Aldo.
As for Sandhagen, if he is awarded Dillashaw, it’s the next best opportunity for him to be fighting the former bantamweight champion. Dillashaw’s name still carries a lot of value which can be a prime opportunity for Sandhagen to continue placing his name on the map especially after coming off two impressive finishes. While also securing the knockout of the year against former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar in his last outing.
Whether this fight comes to fruition is yet to be seen, but fans will be licking their chops to see two of the absolute best at 135lbs compete in a title eliminator.
