UFC 262 is scheduled to crown a new UFC lightweight champion following Khabib Nurmagomedov's UFC retirement. Dana White announced that the official main event of UFC 262 will occur between former two-time Bellator lightweight champion “Iron” Michael Chandler (22-5) and UFC veteran Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira (30-8) in the Toyota Center inside of Houston Texas on May 15.

Oliveira is currently riding an eight-fight winning streak, his most recent victory over former UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson.

Chandler on the other hand is coming off his own impressive UFC debut knockout win against number eight-ranked Dan Hooker. This victory catapulted him to this title fight and left the MMA world buzzing after he finished Hooker then dropped a WWE-type promo calling out the lightweight division.

Many expected Dustin Poirier to be involved in the title fight against either Chandler or Oliveira, but Poirier decided to take a rematch with Conor McGregor instead, which is a lucrative fight in itself. That fight isn’t scheduled yet but negotiations are still taking place between all the parties involved.

Just like UFC 261, this event will also be welcoming fans back to the Toyota Center. Tickets are expected to go on sale beginning March 31st.
