Pictured Brandon Jenkins
This past weekend we had a plethora of Regional MMA events that featured fighters who I had on the podcast as well.
Caged Aggression 30 3/25-3/27 Davenport, IW
First off starting on Thursday Caged Aggression 30 kicked off their first day of their three day series called Triple Threat. In the Co-Main Event Blake Bilder (3-0-1) took on Cain Lugar (4-1) in a fight that featured two top prospects from the Midwest. Blake ended the fight in the first round by inverted triangle crucifix Americana that showed us why his relocation to California a couple years ago had paid off. He is now 4-1-1.
James Dunn (2-3) was able to make a statement as well when he took on Luis Santiago Rivera (0-0), making his pro debut as a short notice replacement. After suffering a nasty cut early on James Dunn Knocked out Santiago Rivera viciously with a right hook just under 2 mins left! Dunn’s record is now at .500 as he improved to 3-3 now training with Chicago Fight Team much improvement has been made already!
On Day 2 of Triple Threat The Main Event featured Brandon Jenkins (13-7), MN native that now trains at Top Gym Syndicate MMA in Las Vegas fighting Aaron Mitchell (7-2-1) at 165lbs for the Caged Aggression Catchweight Championship. Jenkins and Mitchell both put on a great performance however Jenkins won by Unanimous Decision (49-46, 49-46, 49-46) which also was declared Fight of The Night. Jenkins improved his record to 14-7 and his time at Syndicate MMA was shown in this fight.
On the Undercard Top 170lb prospect Northern IL Native Trace Engelkes (1-0) who moved to AZ to train at the MMA Lab gets the Unanimous Decision over Wesley Powers(3-1) who at that point had 3 more fights on his record. Impressive win for Engelkes who is now 2-0 as a Pro and shows no sign of stopping till he’s in a major promotion.
On Day 3 of Triple Threat Main Event featured UFC Veteran Kenny Robertson (15-5) took on Wisconsin Native Dante Schiro (7-2) for the Caged Aggression MMA Welterweight Title. Schiro Knocked Out the Robertson in the 2nd round, his first title defense. Robertson who hadn’t competed almost 3 and half years fell short and we will see how he rebounds. Schiro is now 8-2 and a top prospect out of The Chosen Few Gym in Madison, Wisconsin
In the Co-Main Event Wisconsin Native Nelly Thompson (4-1) who trains with Pura Vida MMA took on Josh Neal (4-2). IL Native Neal Knocked Out Thompson in the 2nd round and probably his biggest win to date against Thompson who had been on a tear prior to his recent loss.
Triton Fights New York vs. Florida 3/27/21 Plant City, FL
“The Quiet Man” Dylan Mantello who at 2-0 already had many take notice coming out of Longo/Weidman MMA in Long Island, NY. With Current UFC Bantamweight Champion Aljamain Sterling and UFC Lightweight Al Iaquinta attending in his corner Dylan again put the hometown crowd silent with a 1st Round Armbar submission over Jerome Mickle (3-9) climbing to 3-0. When Mantello has the opportunity to fight again hopefully it’s for a bigger promotion because I feel he’s ready.
Another notable fight was the Co-Main Event Dennis Buzukja who was on The Contender Series last year defeated Shaquan Moore (1-2) by Decision. Buzukja improves to 5-2 and hopefully we’ll see him get another opportunity on the Contender Series this year.
XFC Young Guns 1 3/27/21 Shawnee, Oklahoma
First up Illinois Amateur Bantamweight Datrelle “DKO” Kozeluh(7-2-2) was pitted against Undefeated Jared Ray (5-0). Kozeluh who came up short in his last fight in 2020 wanted to show his improvements and was able to win by Unanimous Decision. Training at MMA Stop in Cresthill and Midwest Training Center Datrelle told me he would be ready for his pro debut after a win.
In the Main Card MN Featherweight Pro “Apex Predator” Davionte Young made his pro debut against Quran Walker (who also made his pro debut). Davionte didn’t take too long by submitting his opponent by Arm Triangle Choke 2:34 seconds into the first round! Big Pro Debut for Davionte who was undefeated as an amateur. Coming from a wrestling background he talked about how his striking has been improving due to his coach Invicta FC Fighter Kaitlin Young
Also on this card Bellator MMA Veteran Kristina “Warhorse” Williams (3-3) fought her first pro fight outside of Bellator when she took on Helen Lucero. Facing a 2 fight skid Williams defeated Lucero by Unanimous Decision.
That’s a wrap for this past weekend’s loaded Regional MMA Action.
