What Fights Can We Expect Katie Taylor to Face Off In This Year?
Unified, undisputed and undefeated Lightweight Champion Katie Taylor is a fighter to keep an eye on in 2021.
In 2020 Taylor’s impressive back-to-back wins allowed her to maintain her undefeated status, in addition to securing her the RTÉ sportsperson of the year award.
Taylor says she’s “looking forward to an even bigger year this year”. She also noted that she’s hoping for a big fight at home in Ireland.
While an Ireland fight date isn’t set for Taylor yet, we can expect to see her face off against Amanda Serrano this year.
Taylor and Serrano have previously been scheduled to fight. However, issues with the COIVD-19 pandemic and issues with Serrano’s payment have postponed it twice already.
Taylor may also face off against the winner of the rematch fight between Jessica McCaskill and Cecilia Brækhus.
A face off between McCaskill and Taylor would undoubtedly be a killer matchup, as McCaskill would be looking for redemption after having lost to Taylor before in Dec. 2017.
Taylor’s manager, Eddie Hearn, says “there isn’t anyone she wouldn’t fight…” and mentioned a possible face off between Taylor and Chantelle Cameron in 2021, once Cameron is undisputed.
Another up-and-coming fighter Hearn mentioned is Terri Harper.2021 could also see Taylor participating in a crossover MMA fight with Cris Cyborg.
However, her Manager Hearn says Taylor “does want to push the boundaries.”
Pushing boundaries seems to be a recurring theme in Taylor’s career so far, and it doesn’t seem like anyone is going to stop her anytime soon. One thing is for certain, Taylor is going to keep fighting her way to the top of the women’s boxing world, one fight at a time.
