Oleksandr Usyk displayed a variety of skills in his impressive performance against Derek Chisora. His powerful striking ability was on display throughout his victorious effort. Likewise, his resilience was also showcased as he was able to come back after a quick start by Chisora, who was looking to earn an early defeat over the former cruiserweight.
Usyk was able to control the pace of the fight as Chisora was gassed by the end of the first half. It was clear that he wanted to knock Usyk out early into the bout, but his attempts came up unsuccessful each time. Usyk was able to evade Chisora's onslaughts, which effectively wore him down as a result.
It was clear early on in the bout that Usyk was the more prepared of the two fighters. Chisora seemed completely gassed after his initial onslaught, while Usyk looked like he had much more gas left in his tank. He was able to keep distance between him and Chisora and made his opponent constantly chase to make any contact.
While the fight may have ended in Usyk's favor, it was anything but one-sided. Chisora was able to connect with some powerful hits, which prevented Usyk from having a simple point victory. Despite thorough resistance from the Brit, the Ukrainian ended up coming out on top with a unanimous decision of 117-112, 115-113, and 115-113.
Despite his dominant performance, there is still one question that remains to be answered. Does Usyk belong in the heavyweight division, and can he hang with the big dogs? Anthony Joshua, who was present at the arena, remains Usyk’s number-one target as he holds three of the big heavyweight titles. Would the contender be able to hold up against the proven champion? Only time will tell if he ever gets his chance.
