What’s Next for Joshua Greer Jr ?
Joshua Greer Jr has his sights set on a rematch with Mike Plania after losing to the boxer on June 16. Plania was highly impressive in their first bout, knocking Greer off his feet twice despite being the heavy underdog. Nevertheless, it is clear that Greer is looking to put the clash in his rearview mirror and is looking ahead to a potential rematch with the rising star.
Greer, who was previously the number-one contender to John Riel Casimero’s Bantamweight title, has since fallen to the sixth spot in the rankings. Nevertheless, the 26-year-old is still one of the best fighters in the industry, and will not let the unfortunate turn of events shake his confidence.
He has instead called the bout a ‘good learning experience’ that reignited his flame and made him hungrier to come back stronger than ever. His mindset is one that should allow him to do just that, as a lesser competitor might crumble under such a shocking defeat.
Greer believes that he found his fatal flaw when studying his loss against Plania, which would be an undeniably invaluable asset to the competitor if granted a chance to avenge the loss. He mentioned that he needed to block with his right hand more to counteract Plania’s powerful jabs.
While he may have lost the bout in surprising fashion, Greer was still able to put his heart on display and stay competitive in each round of the fight. In the end, Plania’s left hooks were too much to overcome, even for as great of a competitor as Greer.
Greer is a powerful striker who uses his athletic ability to get a leg up on his competition. It remains to be seen whether he will truly come back better than ever, but it would be wise to not bet against him.
